I intend for this series to address the dearth of documentation on the web about configuring monitoring of HP systems using System Center 2012 R2 Operations Manager (SCOM), and also to share my experiences configuring HP Management packs with the community. Update (12/01/2015): Version 6.6.3.0 fixed the issues referenced below. The version that’s current at the time of this update is version 6.6.4.0.   The SQL Server Engineering Team recently acknowledged that there’s an issue with the recently released SQL MP version 6.6.2.0, and have issued a temporary workaround for the issue here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlreleaseservices/archive/2015/10/16/released-system-center-management-pack-for-sql-server-and-replication-6-6-2-0.aspx.   If you’ve already downloaded this MP version and are seeing this issue in your environment, you are advised to apply the workaround published above. If however, you’d rather revert to the previous MP Version (SQL MP 6.6.0.0), you can get that from the download center here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/16174.microsoft-management-packs.aspx?PageIndex=6   I have also uploaded the files below, and to One Drive here: http://1drv.ms/1OYdRk8   Cheers! New SCOM SQL Server Dashboards – A Review

Chiyo OdikaSCOMLeave a Comment

A few weeks ago, Microsoft published a new SQL Server management pack version 6.6.0.0. The new management pack comes with  a whole slew of new features and fixes, characteristic of such updates, but what I didn’t see coming was the nice lovely surprise that was conveniently tucked away with the update, in the form of a new management pack for a new set of SCOM dashboards. This has been out for over a month, and most of you have already seen and used these dashboards, so alas, the euphoria has likely waned, but for those who aren’t quite as familiar with the new visualization library, I’ve played sufficiently with these dashboards to warrant a review of the new dashboards and … Read More

Chiyo OdikaAZURE, Microsoft Operations Management Suite, OMS, SCOM1 Comment

I’m an ardent user of the Azure Operational Insights (OpInsights) service and I keenly follow the latest developments, from new Intelligence packs to search data syntax improvements, and so I’ve singled out the Capacity Planning intelligence pack for some constructive critiquing as well as to share my experiences using it. The Capacity Planning intelligence pack is one that garners a lot of attention and enthusiasm during demos. What’s not to love about a tool that gives you greater control over your datacenter capacity, and that enables you to better project and plan for your future compute and storage needs?
