[MUSINGS] What a Week! EPL Football

This is likely the first non-technology article I’m publishing here, and it is the first of many to come. So indulge me, as I lighten the content in this here blogosphere of mine.

What a whirlwind week it’s been indeed. What with the global financial markets in a tailspin, and reeling from a coronavirus-driven rout, and Elton John’s beloved, albeit bottom table-dwelling Watford putting paid to Liverpool’s bid for a record-setting 19 unbeaten games in the top flight of English football. But this article isn’t about the market. There’s another 5 articles coming on that subject. This is purely about the beautiful game, football. Yes,  It’s been 422 days since Liverpool lost a game in the Premier league. And while we were beginning to marvel at the utter awesomeness of their spectacular unbeaten run, we saw glimpses of their humanity today as Ismaila Sarr and a determined Watford side humbled them in the 3-0 trouncing at Vicarage road.

There were no surprises in the Watford lineup.

Liverpool’s lineup wasn’t at issue as it featured most of the familiar lineup that’s seemed almost invincible this year.

This defeat comes on the back of their loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, and their narrow victory over West Ham on Tuesday. Does this mark a turning point in their fortunes and in their bid for the crown this season, or is this a minor speed bump that’s a feature of doing the difficult business of breaking records? It remains to be seen. Liverpool looked dejected for the entirety of the match, and not a single player stood out as playing particularly well. Watford on the other hand, looked like they meant business from the outset and effectively cut Liverpool to ribbons, with Deulofeu making brilliant runs and shots at goal before he, sadly enough, was stretchered out because of an injury, and with Sarr locking in a brace to put Watford ahead before Deeney sealed the deal with the third.

What is without doubt is that Liverpool are still the clear favorites to win the title this year, what with a massive 22 point lead at the top of the table and with 10 games to go, 4 of which if they are victorious in, will see them crowned champions. Oh and before I forget, nice betting odds for a Watford trouncing of Liverpool, so kudos to those plucky few who took the plunge. But it all seemed too easy a defeat, didn’t it? Or did it? Ok,  Nuff said. Cheers!
